Concrete, Dirt & Brick Disposal: Heavy Debris Dumpster Rules (2026)
How much concrete, dirt, brick, or tile actually fits in a 16-yard roll-off before you hit 2 tons — plus honest pricing and loading tips for North Texas jobs.

How to load heavy debris without a surprise bill
- 1
Measure the slab or pile first
Length x width x thickness in feet, divided by 27, gives cubic yards. Concrete runs about 2 tons per cubic yard — that number decides everything.
- 2
Tell us the material at booking
Say 'concrete,' 'dirt,' 'brick,' or 'tile' when you call 903-449-2818 and we quote the weight up front instead of after the landfill scale.
- 3
Load clean — one material only
Keep concrete and brick separate from wood, trash, and shingles. Clean loads dispose cheaper and often let us take more per haul.
- 4
Spread it low and level
Break pieces down and spread them across the floor of the bin. Never pile heavy debris at one end — it can't be safely lifted.
Heavy debris is the one job where **volume lies**. A 16-yard roll-off looks two-thirds empty and is already over weight. If you're tearing out a patio, a driveway, a tile floor, or hauling off dirt in Fannin, Grayson, Lamar, or Hunt County, plan by the ton — not by the eyeball.
Rough weights to plan by - **Concrete** — about 2 tons per cubic yard (roughly 150 lbs per sq ft at 4" thick) - **Brick and block** — 1.5 to 2 tons per cubic yard - **Dirt and sod** — 1 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard, heavier when wet - **Ceramic tile and mortar** — 1.5 tons per cubic yard - **Asphalt shingles** — about 250 lbs per square (see [roofing](/services/roofing-dumpster-rental))
Every rental includes **2 tons (4,000 lbs)**. In practice that's roughly a **10 x 10 patio at 4 inches thick** — real, useful work, but it is not a full bin of concrete.
What that means for pricing Our flat rates don't change: **$300 for 1 day, $375 for 3 days, $415 for a week, $715 for a month**, delivery and pickup included. What changes with heavy material is how much goes in per haul. So we do the honest thing: tell us the material and we tell you before delivery whether it's one haul or two. No scale-day surprise — that's our [no-hidden-fees policy](/dumpster-rental-near-me-no-hidden-fees). Full rates on the [pricing page](/pricing).
Keep the load clean Mixed loads cost more to dispose of than clean ones. If you can, run heavy material by itself:
- Concrete, brick, block, and clean fill in one load
- Wood, drywall, and general construction debris in another
- Shingles separate again
For demolition work — sheds, decks, fences, carports — the mix is usually lumber-heavy and much lighter, so one 16-yard bin often does the whole tear-out.
What we can't take No asbestos-containing material, no contaminated soil, no railroad ties, and nothing on the standard banned list — [full details here](/blog/what-cannot-go-in-a-dumpster).
Is a dumpster still cheaper than hauling it yourself? With heavy debris, almost always. Half-ton pickups legally top out fast, so you'd be running many short trips and paying tipping fees each time. We ran the numbers in [is it cheaper to get a dumpster or go to the dump](/blog/is-it-cheaper-to-get-a-dumpster-or-go-to-the-dump), and you can size the job with the [weight calculator](/dumpster-weight-calculator).

Frequently Asked Questions
How much concrete can go in a 16-yard dumpster?
About one cubic yard of concrete uses the full 2-ton included allowance — roughly a 10x10 patio at 4 inches thick. Tell us the dimensions and we'll confirm haul count.
Can I put dirt in a rented dumpster?
Yes, clean fill dirt and sod are accepted. Dirt runs 1 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard and is heavier when wet, so keep the load low and level.
Does heavy debris cost more to dispose of?
The flat rental rate is the same; heavy material simply means less fits per haul. We quote the number of hauls before delivery so there's no scale-day surprise.
Should I keep concrete separate from other debris?
Yes. Clean single-material loads of concrete or brick dispose cheaper than mixed loads, and we can often take more per trip.
What heavy materials can't you take?
No asbestos-containing material, contaminated soil, or railroad ties. Standard banned items like paint, oil, tires, and batteries also stay out.
